 August 6, 2011   4thAnnual Homeless Students Back to School Resource Fair                                                                Morrow, GA     10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Clayton County Public Schools Homeless Education Department is hosting its Fourth
Annual Back to School Resource Fair.  This event provides an opportunity for
homeless parents and students to be introduced to community agencies/businesses and
receive information about available resources for the upcoming year.  In addition,
the students will be given free book bags and school supplies to assist with their
academic success.  We are looking for as many resource providers, agencies, businesses as possible to set up table displays.  In addition, we are in need of volunteers to assist with
this event.  (In the past over 500 participates have participated in this event.)

The fair will be held  at rear area of Elite Scholars Academy, 5968 Maddox Road,
Morrow Georgia 30260,  on Saturday, August 6, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

September 30, 2011    5K Awareness Run/Walk MD ROBERTS Middle school  Jonesboro, GA

With the help of Roberts Middle School, I am organizing a wonderful 5K awareness walk/ run to raise money for students that are affected by home foreclosure and homelessness. The proceeds will go to the homeless shelter in Clayton County and would help the students/families that need uniforms, supplies, etc.  The goal is to raise $5000 or more. If you would like to sponsor or participate, please contact me.  You will be able to register online or at the school. Registration is $20.  Look for more information posted soon.  Please join me in this walk/run to help save a student.

 

 

June 17-18,2011           "Help for Homeowners Community Events”       College Park, GA

Congressman David Scott [GA-13], in partnership with the U.S. Departments of Treasury and Housing and Urban Development (HUD), will host the powerful two-day “Help for Homeowners Community Events” on Friday, June 17, 11am-7:30pm and Saturday, June 18, 9am-3pm.  These events will take place at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park.

These events are free opportunities for homeowners to meet one-on-one with mortgage lenders and HUD-approved housing counselors for mortgage assistance.

 

 

May 12-13, 2011       Clayton County Housing Summit        Morrow, GA

 

The Clayton County Housing Summit has been confirmed for May 12 - 13 at the Morrow Center in Jonesboro, GA.  HUD Assistant Secretary Ron Sims has been invited to participate. Please join me and other sponsors at this event to bring awareness to the foreclosure crisis in Clayton County.  I have been invited to speak on May 12th.

 The Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership (ANDP) www.andpi.org www.atlantaregionalhousing.org 

is  a 20-year nonprofit housing organization withe a current focus to a address the foreclosure crisis that is devastating our region.  On November 30th, Former Housing Urban Development Secretary  Henry Cineros will be speaking at the Carter Center on action-oriented steps that organizations can take to help combat foreclosure.  Please come out  and join me at this event.

                                 Free School Supplies and Backpacks filled                                    with supplies will be given until inventory is gone.

The Sophia Academy                          Atlanta, GA

The Sophia Academy Leadership Institute seeks students who demonstrate leadership potential. This unique middle school program, open to rising 6th graders-rising 9th graders, will allow young men and women to gain valuable experience in leadership by participating in meaningful and correlated activities in a cooperative and positive environment.

I will be speaking to the kids at the leadership institute to help spread homeless awareness for kids.

The Leadership Institute will offer study and exploration of the following topics:
